THE RIDE
KILLER CLIMBS - FAST DESCENTS - EPIC SCENERY - LASTING MEMORIES
The Cowichan Valley Regional District is the host region for one of the most challenging gravel cycling events in BC. Hundreds of participants will take to the exclusive gravel roads of the Cowichan Valley in the 5th Annual BURNT BRIDGE CLASSIC GRAVEL FONDO.
Launching from the new and expansive venue in Deerholme (Duncan) BC on Mosaic Forest Management land, cycling enthusiasts of various age groups and abilities will tackle 3 distances (35km, 77km, or 120km) of remote challenging terrain consisting of long steep climbs, twisty descents, and breathtaking views. The event will be supported by a feed zone and ride ambassadors who will provide assistance and support to ensure a fun and safe ride. We will also have an exclusive Gravel mini-course for kids!
*Overnight stay options will be made available as Covid-19 restrictions are relaxed. Stay tuned for updates.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS DUE TO COVID - 19 PANDEMIC
As recommended by BC Health Authority/Viasport guidelines for COVID-19, the Burnt Bridge Classic is advising participants to perform a health check prior to the event and not attend if they are feeling unwell and experiencing the associated symptoms of Covid-19.
WHAT IS A GRAVEL FONDO?
“Imagine pedaling over jagged marbles, sand, or if it rains, through chunky peanut butter. In some places, gravel roads are like rutted, bone-jarring washboards. Think of the worst piece of asphalt you've ever ridden.”
Gravel Fondo’s are mass participation cycling adventure rides that take place usually on exclusive gravel roads away from city roads and busy highways. It allows people to ride at their own pace, enjoy nature, and share their experiences with family and friends.
Although Gravel Fondo's offer some support, They emphasize self reliance and feature few amenities. Riders need to be technically savvy and bring any gear they might need to replace or fix tires, chains, or any other possible pitfalls.

THE ROUTES
“Gravel roads offer escape from the increasingly busy paved roads around the world. Cyclists are discovering that riding on dirt lanes and gravel roads is the calmest form of cycling, a way to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. Gravel cycling offers even more joys, a long-form escape into a world you may not have seen before, and you will discover a joyous time in nature – self-supported, self-reliant, and richly fulfilling.”
